You were told your knee would just always hurt. That the tear wouldn't heal. That surgery was the next step. At Proper Balance, we hear that story every week—and we respectfully disagree.

Regenerative medicine in its

No Synthetics. No Pharmaceuticals.

purest form.

Most patients arrive at regenerative medicine as a last resort. They've already been through the standard playbook — anti-inflammatories, physical therapy, cortisone shots, maybe a surgical consult. They're here because nothing else worked, and surgery still feels like too much. That's okay. Dr. Knox will meet you where you are.

But the larger opportunity — the one she believes the medical world significantly undercommunicates — is what PRF therapy can do proactively. A concentrated injection of your own growth factors into a knee with early cartilage wear is worth exponentially more at 40 than a replacement at 65. Your joints respond to investment. The question is whether you make it before the damage becomes irreversible.

Platelet-Rich Fibrin (PRF) is a second-generation regenerative technology that produces a denser, more biologically active matrix than standard platelet-rich plasma — without the anticoagulants and additives that dilute its healing potential. At Proper Balance, every PRF injection is combined with ozone therapy — an addition most clinics don't offer. Ozone amplifies the healing response at the joint level, extending the regenerative effect of the PRF and accelerating tissue repair from the inside out. Everything used in your treatment comes from your own body, processed in-office on the day of your visit.

Dr. Knox determines candidacy, targets injection sites based on your history and imaging, and delivers treatment as part of a coordinated care plan — not as a standalone procedure. Because tissue heals best when the surrounding system is also working properly.

Invest in your joints the way you invest in everything else.

The Prevention Mindset

We maintain everything we care about. Joints deserve the same logic—especially because the window for regenerative medicine is most powerful before significant damage occurs.

A regenerative injection in your knee at 35 is worth more than a replacement at 65. The biology is better. The outcomes are better. The cost—in every sense—is incomparable.

Why it matters

We use PRF.
Not PRP.

PRP is a decade-old technology — still widely used because it's cheaper to produce and easier to standardize across high-volume clinics. PRF is what the science moved toward. Here's the difference.

PRF · What we use
PRP · Standard clinic
Growth factor release
Slow, sustained release over days — deeper tissue saturation
Rapid release within hours — less sustained effect
Stem cell concentration
Higher — more regenerative potential per injection
Lower — diluted by anticoagulants used in processing
Processing
No anticoagulants or additives — pure fibrin matrix
Requires anticoagulants that reduce biological activity
Longevity of results
Longer-lasting — tissue repair continues well after injection
Shorter window — effects diminish faster
With ozone
Combined with ozone therapy at every injection for amplified healing response
Rarely combined with ozone — most clinics don't offer it
Availability
Available at Proper Balance — used for every regenerative injection
Standard at hospital-affiliated and high-volume clinics

Most clinics use PRP because they have to.
We use PRF because it works better.

The science is

Why PRF Works

PRF works because it uses what your body already knows how to do—heal itself. We just concentrate and direct that power where you need it most.

your own body.

Blood Draw

A small amount of your blood is drawn. You can expect the same amount as a routine lab test.

Centrifuge Processing

Your blood is spun at a precise speed that separates the platelet-rich fibrin layer—concentrating the growth factors your body uses to repair tissue.

Targeted Delivery

The PRF is applied via injection or through microneedling channels—directly where regeneration needs to happen.

Sustained Release

Unlike PRP, the fibrin matrix holds growth factors in place and releases them slowly over time—creating a sustained regenerative effect that builds over time.

The Research

PRF isn't experimental.
The evidence is there.

The regenerative effects of platelet-rich fibrin have been studied across joint conditions, soft tissue injuries, and spinal pathology. For patients who want to read the science directly, we've linked the relevant research below.

Most patients complete a series of three injections, spaced one month apart. This protocol allows the regenerative response to build progressively — each treatment amplifying what the last one started. Dr. Knox evaluates your response throughout the series and adjusts as needed, but three sessions one month apart is the standard starting point for most conditions.

Many post-surgical patients are excellent candidates for PRF therapy—particularly those experiencing residual pain, scar tissue, or incomplete healing after a procedure. PRF has been used effectively to support post-surgical recovery, improve tissue quality in previously operated joints, and address adjacent tissues that are compensating for the surgical site. Dr. Knox reviews your surgical history and current imaging before determining candidacy. Having had surgery does not disqualify you—it just changes where the treatment is directed.

Most patients describe a pressure sensation at the injection site, similar to what you'd feel with any joint injection. Some joints are more sensitive than others—knees and shoulders are typically well-tolerated, while deeper hip injections can produce a more pronounced sensation. Temporary soreness after treatment is normal as the regenerative response activates; this typically resolves within 24 to 72 hours. Most patients return to normal activity the following day. The temporary discomfort of a PRF injection is a meaningful trade for what the tissue gains in return.

PRF injections can last for years. Some patients require periodic maintenance to preserve results, but there's no recurring treatment schedule required.

You were not meant to just manage this.
