Individual Treatments

Explained.

Each treatment below is a distinct offering with its own purpose, process, and outcome. Tap to expand and learn exactly what it does and whether it's right for you.

Chiropractic care at Proper Balance is not a 10-minute adjustment. It's a comprehensive clinical process that begins before your first treatment and evolves as your body responds. Dr. Knox treats the spine and extremities—knees, shoulders, hips, ankles—because pain doesn't always originate where you feel it.

Your first visit includes a full 45-minute consultation, a thorough physical examination, and on-site X-rays that show exactly what's happening structurally inside your body. At your report of findings—a dedicated 30–45 minute appointment— Dr. Knox walks you through your imaging, explains what's causing your symptoms, and maps out a correction plan built specifically for your body.

At Proper Balance, your rehabilitation protocol is built around your specific injury, your imaging, your movement patterns, and where you want to get back to. There are no templates here.

Whether you're recovering from a sports injury, a car accident, a workplace injury, or a post-surgical procedure, Dr. Knox designs a progressive rehab sequence that works with your chiropractic correction—not independently of it. The two are coordinated intentionally so your structural corrections hold while your soft tissue heals and your movement patterns improve.

The goal isn't just to get you out of pain. It's to make sure the injury doesn't keep coming back.

Getting adjusted corrects the structure. Corrective exercise is what makes that correction last. Without building strength in the right muscles—at the right time—the spine tends to drift back to its old patterns. Corrective exercise closes that loop.

Dr. Knox prescribes targeted exercises that address your specific structural deficits: weak stabilizers, imbalanced muscle patterns, poor movement mechanics, or postural habits built by years of desk work. These aren't generic "core exercises." They're prescribed based on your imaging and designed to support your specific spinal correction.

Some injuries don't fully heal on their own — not because the body can't, but because the tissue has become chronic and fibrotic, trapped in a state that standard treatment doesn't reach. Focused shockwave therapy changes that.

Concentrated acoustic waves are delivered precisely to the affected tissue, breaking up calcifications and adhesions, stimulating blood flow, and re-triggering the body's healing response in areas that have essentially switched off. It works by creating controlled, targeted stimulus at the injury site — prompting the body to repair what it stopped trying to fix. At Proper Balance, it's used as part of a coordinated plan, not as a standalone shortcut.

Massage therapy is integrated into your treatment plan as a clinical tool—used to address muscle tension, improve tissue mobility, support circulation, and prepare your body to hold its spinal corrections between adjustments.

The timing matters. Therapeutic massage before an adjustment allows muscles to release their grip on vertebral segments, making corrections more effective and longer-lasting. After an adjustment, it helps reinforce proper positioning and reduce the reactive tension that can pull the spine back toward dysfunction.

Whether it's integrated into your chiropractic plan or used as a stand-alone recovery tool, the massage therapy here is purposeful, clinically informed, and focused on one thing: helping your body heal.

how it's used

Integrated into your chiropractic plan or as standalone recovery support

best for

Muscle tension, poor mobility, recovery between adjustments, general stress & pain management

Trigger point needling is a precise, injection-based technique used to deactivate stubborn myofascial trigger points — the dense, knotted areas of muscle tissue that resist manual therapy and refer pain to surrounding regions.

When muscle won't let go, needling intervenes. A small amount of lidocaine is injected directly into the trigger point, disrupting the pain-spasm cycle and allowing the tissue to release and reset. The result is a rapid reduction in localized pain and a restoration of normal muscle function that adjustments alone can't always achieve.

This service is performed by our medical staff and is typically integrated into a broader treatment plan — most effective when combined with chiropractic care and corrective exercise.

Diagnosis first.

Why Our Approach Works

Most chiropractic pain doesn't go away permanently because it's never fully diagnosed. At Proper Balance, we don't start treating until we understand exactly what we're treating and why.

No. Dr. Knox treats the full musculoskeletal system—cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine, as well as extremity joints including knees, shoulders, hips, wrists, and ankles. She also treats headaches, sciatica, disc problems, sports injuries, postural issues, and repetitive strain conditions. If you're unsure whether what you're dealing with is something she can address, call or text and she'll give you an honest answer.

Focused shockwave uses concentrated acoustic waves to stimulate healing in soft tissue that has become chronic and isn't responding to other treatment—common in conditions like plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendinopathy, and calcific shoulder pain. The sensation is often described as a deep pressure or mild discomfort at the treatment site, not sharp pain. Most patients tolerate it well and notice improvement within the first few sessions.

Yes! This is one of the core strengths of Proper Balance. Chiropractic care pairs naturally with regenerative injections for joints that need more than structural correction, red light therapy to reduce systemic inflammation and accelerate healing, and medical weight loss programs for patients whose body composition is contributing to spinal load and pain. Dr. Knox sees the whole picture. If other services belong in your plan, you'll hear about them—and understand why.

It depends entirely on what we find, how long the problem has been developing, and your goals. Dr. Knox will give you an honest, specific timeline during your report of findings—not a vague answer designed to keep you coming indefinitely.

This is the most common thing we hear from new patients—and it's a fair concern. Most chiropractic experiences that don't stick follow the same pattern: a brief exam, an adjustment, and a discharge without a real plan. The problem isn't chiropractic—it's that the underlying structural issue was never fully diagnosed, the correction wasn't stabilized with rehabilitation, and the body was never taught to hold its new position. At Proper Balance, the diagnostic process, the report of findings, and the rehabilitative component exist specifically to address why short-term adjustments don't last.

You were not meant to just manage this.
